Johnchip on Aug 12, 2015Just box-in face the metal posts, paint white, but use treated lumber at bottom as a larger box for the post. Do not make them too bulky as the house trim is slight, just enough to cover and about 1/2-3/4" thick. Total DIY cost, about $200 and two days work. $800-1000 contractor.Helpful Reply

Jonnie Hammon on Aug 13, 2015If you plant climbing rose, and have patience, they, or any other preferred climbing plant , will fill it in, add color, and a nice welcoming fragrance, you and you visitors will enjoy. I would however recommend avoiding English Ivy, Honeysuckle,l or Wisteria. They will spread uncontrollably, and will cause damage to your house. My adopted sister rented a house, that had a patio, with an outdoor kitchen. They put up lattice behind the cooking area, and across the top, and planted grapes of the darkest purple, and let them climb and fill in across the top patio lattice as well. You could sit out on the patio even on the hottest days, and remain cool, while enjoying the smell, and eating the grapes. It not only looked great, but smelled, and tasted wonderful.Helpful Reply
