Kevin M. Veler, Law Office of on Nov 04, 2011Caroline, be sure to check out my website BewareOfContractor.com to get tips on picking a contractor and how to do your work up front. Getting a referral is good, but it it NOT the only step. And in your case, the last thing you want is a bad project that could cause you more harm. There are some great contractors here and with NARIAtlanta that have specific certifications regarding accessibility issues that are going to be important so you definitely want to check out those certifications as well.Helpful Reply

HandyANDY - Handyman & All Repairs, LLC on Nov 04, 2011You probably want to ask AK Complete Home Renovations. They are on Hometalk and do some fabulous work from what I've seen. HandyANDY used to do some baths and we've done several roll in showers & wheelchair accessability projects in the past. We limit ourselves now strictly to repairs & maintenance....which keeps us plenty busy. Just be careful with your bid project as there are a ton of underfunded contractors in our market...many who will get a deposit, cherry pick the profitable parts and leave you hanging. Those active in a forum like this aren't likely to perform that way!Helpful Reply

Design Time for Homes, Atlanta on Nov 04, 2011Hi Caroline, Also, you may want to consider getting a floor plan drawn for the changes you want to make, to make sure everyone is on the same page. It's good to get that before the bids so then you can get comparable bids.Helpful Reply

Caroline R on Nov 04, 2011Thanks for the answers, but I'm still hoping for more ideas.Just out of curiousity, does anyone know how to get a home remodeling grant? I am an above knee amputee and really need my home gutted, but since I am on disability, I have no way of paying for any of this. PLEASE if anyone knows someone or some way, let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Caroline RayHelpful Reply
