I live in a mobile home and my cabinets are pressboard with oak doors. The cabinet frames are just paper over the pressboard. How can I update them?

I'm just heading out, so I don't have time to search for you, but there are many good postings on the subject here. The type you have are called thermofoil. This will get you started: http://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=painting%20thermofil%20cabinets

Sherwin Williams sells a primer that can be used on these cabinets.

Generals Finishes has all kinds of stain colors and paints. Depending on what you want to do the stains are fun to do but it does take time and you can look it up on Pinterest and YouTube to view ideas and tutorials. Best thing is you don't have to sand down anything. Just a little scuffing.

I've had good results with Rustoleum's Cabinet Transformations, and no stripping required. Check out their website and this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOHslKNrVxE

I second trying rustoleum cabinet transformation. I have used it on not only my stained cabinets (which are very cheap and probably made out of what yours are) but on a dresser, malomine and various other furniture. It works great on a lot of different surfaces. I can't say enough good things about this paint product! Here's my blog post on my kitchen cabinets: http://thriftyartsygirl.blogspot.com/2015/04/white-glazed-cabinet-transformations.html?m=1 and on my dresser: http://thriftyartsygirl.blogspot.com/2015/03/painted-thrift-store-dresser-from.html?m=1 it comes in lots of different colors or you can even make your own, you can also use the provided glaze or not for the look of your choice.

If you like a rustic look....chalk paint and distress is a simple and fun look. Or try adding some napkin decoupage to the front panel before you distress. You can find literally hundreds of napkin styles online. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/rooms/how-to-repurpose-paper-napkins-9279291 Or just do the paint and napkin thing without the distress. Have fun!

Thanks for asking because I have the SAME issue! And the previous owners had used painters taped which just ripped the crap out of the paper.....More ideas are welcome for us mobile home owners!

I am afraid cabinet transformations will not work on your cabinets because it appears your paper covering the cabinet frame is loose from the pressed wood. I think you would need to repair that before using the transformation. I live in a manufactured home and used this product on our formica cabinets and love the results.

I'd make a small slit where the paper is loose and inject glue. Get the kinds that has a nozzle like a long pin. Then use rustoleum. Although I had paneled cabinets in my manufactured home. I wiped them down with TSP, primed (2 coats) and painted and they have held up for the past 10 years.

I don't think what you have is Thermofoil as that's a plastic coating. Are you wanting to stain or paint your cabinets?

There is a lot of missing rips on mine and nothing to inject into....just torn paper

I redid my press board cabinets with stain first, bathrooms turned out great but my kitchen had way to much water damage, and the stain did go on like the others. So I sanded off the poly, and made my own chalk in off white, and painted and sanded between to get the soft chalk look. I did 3 coats of chalk and 3 coats of min wax finishing polish and so far they look beautiful. Sprayed my silver knobs and handles with hammered black. I am hoping to be finished this week.
