Decorating space in foyer

I need ideas to decorate the space above my front door. I also have a space above my windows in the master bedroom (currently neutral colors) that needs attention. Any suggestions as well as pictures greatly appreciated!

I think possibly a wrought iron piece to compliment the light fixture might work for you. As far as the bedroom I would like to see pictures.

@Janet Pizaro That is a great idea. Any idea of where to look for a sizable piece?

Nice foyer. Would remove the wreath. I'd paint the whole door assembly a brighter/contrasting colour to draw the eye downward, and place a taller plant to the right to balance the mirror and plant on the left. Wouldn't worry about putting anything above the door.

I think a big, beautiful metal wall piece between door and upper window would be nice. Also, some tall plants flanking the door to draw your eyes up. You have a beautiful, big space and you want to take advantage of that. Maybe think about painting that front wall a nice color a couple shades darker than the walls around it to draw attention to the window above and whatever artwork you put there. Remove your wreath from the door so that attention goes to new piece above. Just make that whole front wall a focal point.

@KLDinNH It's a beautiful piece and would definitely make a statement centered in that space! My only thought for your consideration would be if you might like something round since you have all the rectangles of the doors and windows. This might add a little more visual interest and contrast to the space. What you could do if you have access to some large paper or cardboard is cut out a large round shape and a large rectangle shape to help you decide which you think looks better. Keep me posted on what you end up doing or let me know if you have other questions. It's going to be a great space!

In my traditional point of view, I think the solution lies in the space between window and door. I would install something there, maybe a painting or group of small framed art (thinking of English homes with soaring ceilings and artwork hanging everywhere) that could be admired from the stairs, mainly. Perhaps a window treatment (draperies) as well to add interest. I would never paint the door and surroundings a different color, since all the woodwork is white and it would clash. I hope this helps

You have gotten lots of good suggestions for the area around your front door, but have you considered a frosted privacy film for all those glass panels both above and on each side of the door? With interior lights on at night one can see inside your foyer and may be beyond & no matter what you decide for the wall decor, you may want privacy too. I have done my sidelights with a film that just cuts to fit then wet the window and squeegee it down and let dry. I feel much more secure knowing that whoever rings the doorbell is not peering in to see if we are home. JoAnn sells the product...

@Jan Loehr Hi Jan, I am fortunate to live on a hill so privacy is not an issue. I have an awesome view of hills and trees and would hate to obscure that. Great suggestion though!

Here are three for you: m.irklands.com, Metal-Wall-Art.com, Wayfair.com. You might also try target.com, walmart.com, and worldmarket.com. They have a lot of stuff online they don't carry in-store.

You could hang quilt(s) in this space as long as the sunlight doesn't shine on them, for direct sunlight will bleach the colors.

I think the first thing I would do is make that one wall a different color. That could give you some inspiration. You may find that is all you need.. . There is so many ways to go. Take a cue from the rest of your house, I saw a wall of mirrors done once, Stencil something. Let us know what you did.

oh, you could also take the wreath off the door and hand a larger on in that blank area.

I stenciled my wall and absolutely love it! It took quite a bit of time but it was worth it.

I am a plant person so I would hang one of my 3' Rhipsalis there. I am always looking for places to put or especially hang plants in the winter and now will need places in the summer as the squirrels have been trimming all my plants this summer.

Since I see other plants in your foyer,I see stencils of vines above your door. Or if you like brick, use stencils to creat a brickstone wall. Good luck. Please post pictures of what you decide to do

Stencil a saying or sentiment. You might find a "peel and stick" stencil you like.

I was lucky and found this metal art that matches my chandelier :) I found it at a store called Old Time Pottery. Hobby Lobby and Kirklands also sell big metal wall art that is pretty affordable.
