The Small Laundry dilemma
by

My old house had a "gi-normous" laundry room. I guess it's a good thing that is where we raised our five kids. We are empty nesters now and believe me I have had worse laundry scenarios, (like dark cold basement, or hot Texas garage). My laundry resides inside. It is small.
When the old laundry pair died, I decided on the new front loaders. I measured carefully because they are pretty big beasts.
Note: Two things I missed: my gas pipe sticks out of the wall a good ways, keeping the machines out from the wall a good ways. When we opened the door, the piece that goes into the door jamb to close the door brushed the front of my dryer front. (glass/plastic bubble juts out)
I had to order two special doors and had them open into the hall although the installer insisted they should open in.
I now wish I hadn't ordered the bases for them, I am short and can't hardly reach the cabinets above. They are wonderful storage, but I cannot get to cabinets above without a step stool. Also, if they were on the floor I could fold on top.
The room is situated under the stairs. The end of the room has a slant ceiling. We purchased a couple of cabinets with additional storage and they fit along the wall under the stair.
My goal was to make it pretty and bright due to having no window in there.
