Can you suggest how to tackle the cleaning the stainless steel rims of
the burners. It is in good shape, but needs some work.

Clean it by putting everything you can in a big thick plastic bag outside.Add a cup of ammonia and a gallon of hot water.wear eye protection and gloves.tie it up and leave for an hour.then open bag with gloves and an empty buckets take out some pieces and bring them to your kitchen sink. They should wash clean.if you leave them in the bag to long it will remove the paint on the dials. The rest of the stove can be washed down with a bucket of one cup ammonia, and hot water.Wear gloves and Eye protection. If the stove works sell it on Craig's list,if it doesn't work put it on Craigslist for free for pickup.it would look great in a garden with red flowers growing out of the burners for flames,a pot of flowers growing out of the oven, etc!Someone will want it,and will move it out for you.may take it dirty if it doesn't work!

A good old fashion SOS Brillo pad and hot water to get the hard stuff off and then in the dish washer for the long setting. Worked for me and the stove looks new,,good luck,,looks like a good stove.

Use a few SOS or Brillo pads to clean off any burnt on debris. Examine all parts to make sure the rust hasn't eaten a hole through the metal. Then use a powdered cleanser to remove discolorations. (Bon Ami is not as abrasive as Comet) Then buff and polish the stainless steel. Buy or borrow a polishing disc that goes on your drill. Use a good polishing cream to bring out the shine.

I use Bar Keeper's cleaner on SS. Works beautifully. And I love your stove.

So like a stove my grandparents had 50 years ago! I agree with Bar Keepers, very gentle cleanser. My mom always used a product called "Glass Wax" that I think is still available on Amazon. She used it on all of the major appliances in the kitchen including the stove and fridge. Sponge on, allow to dry and wipe off with a soft towel or even paper towels, really brings out the shine on the whole piece. It's a gem!

Hi. Try white vinegar and baking soda. I just discovered this and it seems to do an amazing job. Make a paste and use it like cleanser. Hope this helps.

I buy a terrific oven cleaner from Sam's club in a two pack in the restaurant section. spray all sides of the removable parts and let soak. spray the rest of the parts. Some of them may fit in your dishwasher. I put a paper towel over the crustiest areas to keep the liquid moist longer. Scrub with a green 3 m pad and wipe off with paper towels and a wet sponge. use Barkeeprs friend and a power tool to buff the stainless, either a soft buffing cloth on a drill or use a miracle fiber cloth folded under a sander. clean the ports on the burners and the tubes for the ignition by soaking them in a large pot of water and ammonia. Mom woud boil it on the back of the stove, but you can use a crock pot overnight at least. you may go through a lot of old toothbrushes and toothpicks. if you have access to the teeth cleaning tools a dental hygenist uses, it will help. you have an antique treasure there gal!

I want to thank you for all your tips, as well. I have an almost identical white Wedgewood stove with a griddle between the burners and the stainless needs serious cleaning to get rid of stains (how can there be stains if it is stainless steel?) I will try your suggestions...

I used to soak them in hot water and dish soap for a while. Then lightly use an SOS pad. Nothing better than the SOS pad to clean your stainless cookware also.

Do they just built up grease or are they rusty I used to boil mine in soapy water too! It is a terrific way of getting the grease off of the burners themselves. I used to do the same thing with the knobs as well, if they come off, it works pretty well! I wouldn't use steel wool on anything! it scratches so easily. there are some really good stainless steel cleaners out there, I use them on our outside grill.

Up until 6 months ago I had a 1953-1956(?) Okeefe & Merritt that I inherited and used daily for over 30 years. The stove top was chrome not stainless steel and the griddle in the middle was cast iron. I recently read online that the best way to clean the burners was to place one in a ziplock bag, carefully and generously spray both sides of it with straight ammonia (DO NOT INHALE THE FUMES!), quickly zip the bag up and place it outside overnight. The next day everything just rinses off. I never got to try it but all the reviews for this tip were very positive.

Dawn detergent and baking soda made into a paste. Use a scotch pad( green kind) and start to scrub. Leave it sit for 10 minutes or so and then clean off with clean hot water
