yes but would need to sand or rough it up abit first so the paint will stick

I would go the your local paint store. There are alot of new techniques available that would be alot cheaper then replacing old fixtures.

With prep all Formica can be painted However because it is in an area with constant use, and exposed to water suggest you use Counter Transformation by Rustoleum or other similar specialty paint specifically designed for counter top. http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/transformations/countertop-transformations

You can paint it, but have you considered wallpapering it and then varnishing with yacht varnish. I have achieved great success doing this to kitchen tables, you can find more details here http://www.pillarboxblue.com/brilliant-ideas-for-upcycling-with-wallpaper/

Absolutely, yes. Do your homework though. There is a paint kit available that will reproduce granite. Great product.

Yes, I used Rustoleum's product for countertops, Counter Transformation. I taped off the wall tile, then used a small paint brush to cut in, then a small foam roller for the rest of the surface. It smells terrible, but eventually cleared out of my tiny bathroom with the exhaust fan left on for a couple of days. It is tintable, so you can get different shades. I applied two coats originally, but could see tiny air bubbles in the finish. So, after a few weeks of looking at it, I applied a third coat and it looked much better. My countertops had a slightly rougher finish to begin with and this gave it a slight sheen afterward. It is in our hallway bathroom and it's been there for about 6 months now and it looks great and cleans well. I would definitely use it again and would recommend it.

    What is Giani paint?
  • Janice B. Janice B. on Aug 25, 2015
Giani makes refinishing coatings for cabinets and counters. The countertop line looks a lot like granite, it includes 3 different shades that you apply to resemble the streaks, flecks, etc. of real granite.

I just redid my Formica countertops in my kitchen this summer. Without sanding, I primed, painted with black enamel paint, sponged on silver craft paint, sprinkled with gold and onyx glitter, and sealed with Klear Koat. The hardest part was the Klear Koat which you had to mix and pour a flood coat over the counters. It was kind of messy. But it turned out beautifully. I have a lot of counters in my kitchen and they were all custom to replace, so I did the next best thing and it cost less than $400. I didn't add it up, but it was close. I estimated thousands to replace...
