Want an idea of how to create a outdoor fire pit

SheWhoMustBeHeard on Aug 27, 2015First of all, don't put the pit on top of the slab. You want to dig out about 6" of dirt and depending on the look you want, line it with either rock, lava rock or fire bricks. Build the sides with either river rock or fire brick and build it up as high as you like. If you can get a 1/2" thick metal ring (whatever diameter you'd like) you can use that as sides. You have a lot of latitude. Just be sure that your city or area allows open fires or you could do all the work and end with a ticket!Helpful Reply

Jude on Aug 28, 2015A friend of mine put the inner drum from an automatic washing machine into the ground, no slabs, just in soil/sand with gravel/stones on the top. I wish I had a picture but it looked stunning and because it was sunk into the soil/stones, was very stable - but not huge of course, but free. If you have any old fire bricks put them in the pit as well. If your soil is very peaty and you live in a dry area, the soil could smoulder underneath for days, potentially causing fires to start that is why you want to line the hole with soil/sand/rocks.gravel.Hope you have fun.Helpful Reply
