Sad Bookcase Gets Farmhouse Makeover

When I found this big ugly bookcase at a garage sale it was just that: big and ugly. For a cheap price the woman was practically begging me to take it from her, and, though my van was already packed with our Bentwood Rocking Chair and an American Style Upholstered chair, I decided to take the old thing and see what could be done with it. I saw the potential it held.
I've given a glimpse of the steps taken to restore her here, but be sure to check out the full post for more and better details.

It was very scratched and scuffed up and dirty as can be, but I loved the detail on the top and on the doors.
The first task in remodeling the big guy was sanding….and sanding….and sanding out the majority of the scuffs, especially the deep ones in the side. I left some for the charm.
I painted the outside white with a homemade chalk paint recipe (found here: http://howtodistressfurniture.net/how-to-make-chalk-paint-2), and the inside blue, making sure to tape where needed. It was helpful that two of the shelves and doors came off to allow an even coat all around.
I’m totally in love with our living room all of the sudden! Things are finally starting to come together. I don’t know if I’ve really figured out what it takes to achieve that farmhouse look, but this bookcase brought me one step closer to be sure.
