Modern Black Mantle

Do you have an old, outdated mantle? Don't replace it just yet! Heidi from Lily Field Furniture updated this mantle with a little help from Liquorice. Come find out how she did it!
We are so excited that some friends of ours moved into the neighborhood recently. I went over to walk through the house and Tamie had me talked into all kinds of projects within minutes! The first thing she wanted tackled was this dated fireplace mantle.
The flooring was being ripped out and changed to hardwoods and the whole house was in the process of being painted. I went over in the wee hours while no one was there and tackled this project in 2 nights. The tile surround will eventually be updated but we decided on classic black (Country Chic Paint Liquorice) to change the look of the mantle.
After taping off the surround I went ahead and used my sprayer to do a coat of Liquorice Paint.
I went back the next night after I was sure it was dry. I lightly distressed the mantle with 220 grit paper and then sealed with Tough Coat Finish.
Enjoyed the project?
