Susan Bechamp on Aug 30, 2015Follow instructions on self-leveling cement .It comes in RS= rapid set, or ES = extended set. I wouldn't try "coloring" this layer. You want it to bond well with the original floor, which may require an extended cleaning as part of the floor prep. As the name implies, this cement goes on thin enough to seek its own level.Seal any holes or gaps so this cement doesn't flow where it isn't needed. Before mixing the product, use silicone caulk around the perimeter of the room where walls meet the floor so it doesn't flow under the wall into another room. Then treat the floor to whatever coloring technique you want. There is more than one way to introduce color onto the floor. Here is a tutorial on the self-leveling cement. http://www.theartofdoingstuff.com/how-to-pour-self-levelling-cement/ Here is a good site to learn about various methods of coloring cement: http://www.concretenetwork.com/concrete-color/ Good luck with your project.Helpful Reply

Karen lukacovic on Aug 30, 2015Thank you so much. How long do you need to wait to put the furniture back in? Of course that's my problem moving everything out. Do you think I could put a 2x4 across the room. Thus only doing half at a time ? How would I get the 2x4 unstuck. I'm such an amateur but so so on a budget so DIY is my only way to goHelpful Reply

Darlene Odom on Aug 30, 2015You would not want to do half of the room at a time. Self leveling goes where it needs to and you can't just do part of a room. The 2x4 would definitely would not be a good idea. You would be better off renting a storage room or one of the "deliver to your location" for temporary use to get this done. Make sure the self leveler is thin enough when poured on the floor and then you will still have to do some spreading out. Watch the tutorials very carefully and good luck!Helpful Reply
