It actually took me 35 years of marriage and decorating my home to be able to pinpoint certain decorating looks, colors and decor items I love living with day-in and day-out, year after year. I like many different decorating styles. In fact, oftentimes I have thought I have "decorating attention deficit disorder" but after I sat down with pencil and paper and made an actual list, a definite pattern emerged and there were some things I realized I am drawn to time and time again. After seeing my list, I realized my preferred decorating style was not "Traditional" as I had initially thought, but really the more informal Cottage Style…actually a mixture of Romantic Cottage, Beach Cottage, French Country Cottage, and maybe to a lesser degree, English Cottage. If you are sort of floundering around, looking for your decorating style, search decorating magazines or the internet for decorated rooms, or go to Pinterest and pin rooms you like. List each thing you are drawn to in each room. For instance, my list looked something like this: light and bright white! white! white! pastel colors, especially soft greens, blues and pinks wrought iron wicker & rattan baskets floral anything, especially roses (art, fabrics, china etc.) garden/nature decor (clay pots, birds, bird houses & cages, nests & eggs etc.) greenery, especially ivy, ferns and topiaries plantation shutters crisp white bead board shells and beachy decor slip covered furniture (neat & fitted, not sloppy) painted furniture curvy furniture furniture with details like carvings or moldings Also, take into consideration the decorating elements already in your home that you love and never have the burning desire to change. Soon, you should be able to see a clear pattern of the things you are repeatedly drawn to and from that, you should be able to better pinpoint "your style."

Look in magazines and start keeping pictures of things that you like. From those you'll be able to tell what you gravitate towards and a style will present itself. Most people tend to blend styles anyhow, don't feel like you need to pin-point yourself into only one little area of interest. Mix n match those things you like and have fun with it.

@The Chirping Frog has a great point in saying that most people tend to blend styles. Very true! As I mentioned, my house is a mix of the different cottage styles but I try not to mix the different cottage styles all in one room. For instance, I have several rooms that are more coastal cottage with beachy colors, artwork and accessories, some rooms that lean more French Country cottage, a couple "shabby chic" type rooms etc. In other words, I don't mix my flowery, shabby chic stuff in with my beachy stuff and I don't use my beachy artwork in my French Country cottage inspired rooms. However, some things can overlap from room to room and work with any of my cottage style rooms like plantation shutters, beadboard and painted furniture. If you like different styles, keeping them somewhat separated in different rooms helps to maintain a more cohesive and planned look. Back in the 80's, when southwest decor was popular, one of my relatives mixed a lot of southwest decor with Asian inspired pieces in the same room and it looked odd--quite hodge-podge, imho. Would have worked so much better if she had separated those styles and used them in different rooms.

I would go on the Houzz website for inspirations.
