Estate Sale Treasure: Antique Empire-Style Hotel Sideboard
by

$190
I had been been coveting an Empire-style chest for a long while. But these beauties are hard to find in my neck of the woods, or oh-so-very expensive.
Until I happened upon an amazing estate sale and found this sideboard with a fascinating history.
I knew it was a treasure even though the doors were Scotch-taped together and all the knobs were loose.
Normally, I like to take my paintbrush to old furniture, but the finish on this piece is too beautiful for paint.
It's not perfect. There are a few chips and scratches and places where the veneer has been repaired. But these marks speak to the sideboard's character and history.
It's a history I'm still piecing together. You can read the entire story of this piece on my blog.

White Oak Studio Designs on Jun 27, 2013Just an exquisite example of Empire style furniture. This one is definitely a keeper. Empire dressers are very hard to find in Michigan too! Here's an Empire dresser I painted. This one sits in my dining room and I am using it for storage. LOVE the deep and roomy drawers! JeremyOlm on Nov 23, 2014You can never go wrong with antiques. They can turn any room into a stunning showroom with the vintage style that it illumes. I think I have to visit estate sales more often to uncover beautiful treasures such as this lovely sideboard. I usually just find things that are beyond repair but I guess with good refurbishing skills and a little creativity, anything is possible.
