We need to move the lights from middle to each side. Would it be easier to put in pendant lights or wall lights? Beginners!!

Understanding your beginners I would reach out to the houzz website. I think possibly changing the light fixture wont be as bad as you thought. You might just be able to get a bigger fixture to give you more light.

@Donna, it's a little complicated to explain in just words. I tried, but couldn't find a good photo tutorial online. I'll search some more, and if I don't find anything helpful, after I pick up our grandson from the bus stop I'll draw up a very basic plan for you. It's not really a difficult job, a little time consuming, and messy, but doable. We had to do something similar when hubby installed a ceiling light fixture in our half bathroom during the build, when we needed a wall mount over the sink. Since you are beginners and will be dealing with electricity, you might want to think about hiring an electrician if you feel uncomfortable at all in doing this yourself.

Here's the best video I can find. I was hoping to find that fellow Hometalker Jeff from @Home Repair Tutor did a video on this, but I was unable to find one. I tagged him hopes he'll come by and give you more help. this video isn't exactly what you are doing, changing from one center box to two to either side, but hopefully it will give you an idea of what a job like this entails.

This example is the easist for beginners because you don't have to move the electrical box. This one is shown installed on the ceiling but it's the same if done on the wall as yours is. OK...I know these are VERY old fashioned. However, if you find one of these types of fixtures (garage sale, thrift store, etc.) you can update it by spray painting the metal housing (yes the chain too!) and getting new globes for it. Home Depot, Lowe's etc have lots of globe options to choose from. Additionally this type of fixture is easy to position the lights/globes to where it works the best for your height, where the medicine cabinet or mirror will go, etc. Need more help with the install or how to? Just let me know via HT

@CK I thought of that too, but wasn't sure how easy they'd be able to find. It really is the best idea for a beginner.

I want to be sure I understand...are you trying to make it balanced with the vanity? They sell fixtures that are quite a bit longer than the one you have there and you may be able to make it centered by just putting in a fixture like that so that you won't have to move the electrical box. Make sure if you do move the box and run new wires that you know what you are doing and follow what is recommended for proper installation of whatever light fixture or fixtures you choose. If you fudge things at all and there would ever be a fire or anything like that, your insurance may not cover it. This was advice we got from an electrician at one time. So, if you end up having to move things inside the wall, you may want to just hire an electrician to do it for you.....good luck!

Unless you or your other half has skill with electrical wiring, you'd have to have a professional do your job. As for the placement, wiring is already in place within the wall, which would make it less problematic to separate your lighting and put a fixture on each side. If you wish to install a pendant light, wiring would have to come from above or be routed from the wall to the ceiling. there may already be a wiring source in the ceiling, but it would take someone with the proper knowledge to determine if it would be sufficient to handle what it already handles and add more to its load. However you choose to approach your lighting dilemma, again, unless someone in your household is versed in all things electrical, go to a pro.

Depends on how much light you need. Usually wall lights give off more light than pendant lighting. Powder room might not need as much light as master bath for shaving, makeup etc.
