The Secret To Making Garden Art Flowers From Dishes

If you want to make garden flowers like these ones, you may want to add one little skill to your bag of tricks - drilling holes in dishes (glass, ceramic, metal). There is a complete ...»
tutorial on the Empress of Dirt site listed below.

Don't be afraid - it's a simple, slow process that takes a gentle touch, and once you know how to do this, you can make all sorts of other garden art projects as well.

It is also possible to make these just using silicone sealant as the adhesive but I prefer drilling holes and using wires to make it last through Canadian winters.

A Drawer transformed into an over the Toilet Cabinet

So I had all these drawers lying around from an old waterbed frame compliments from my neighbor who had purchase a new bed and wanted to know if I would like to use the wood and drawers ...»
for any of my projects...and me the JUNK Queen never passes up on an opportunity for free wood LOL!

So I thought to myself, SELF... what can I make out of these drawers?

Then I got to thinking that I was needing a new cabinet to go over the toilet in the bathroom to hold the toilet paper and other bathroom accessories.

So from one of the drawers this is what I made...

You Can see the whole tutorial here...

  • It seems everywhere you look these days you can find a caddy of some sort. They can serve many purposes.
  • In this post I'll show you how I turned unwanted fence and discarded chair parts into something very useful.
  • After cutting the fence pieces to size, I clamped the pieces together so that I could use my nail gun to quickly assemble the pieces.
  • I chose a chair spindle to make the handle, using the compound miter saw to cut to size.
  • I drilled a pilot hole on each side and used a black (drywall) screw to secure the handle.
  • I did a quick wash of red paint, followed with some watered down black paint to tie the pieces together. Diluting the paint allows the "rustic" to show through. :)

Rustic Caddy using Reclaimed Fence

I love repurposing unwanted items saving them from the landfill. This is just one thing you can do with old fencing.

  • Tipsy buckets. 3

Tipsy bucket tower.

I've seen a lot of these towers (and made them for others) out of clay pots, but decided to make mine out of old buckets and a tub. ...»

HOW IT'S MADE: Cut a piece of rebar the height of your tower plus 12 to 18 inches. Drill offset holes just larger than your rebar in your buckets near the sides. Drill a hole in the center of the bottom tub. Pound a piece of rebar in the ground and thread your buckets over it balancing the buckets on the edges. Be sure and pound the rebar in far enough to hide it with the top bucket and plants. You can pond it in a bit more once your buckets are placed. Place a terra cotta pot upside down in the tub for the bottom bucket to rest on so it doesn't sink into the soil in the tub. Fill the bottoms of each bucket with peanut packing for drainage and to make them lighter. Plant with wave petunias, asparagus fern, vinca and other trailing plants. Watering tip: Water slowly so the soil doesn't wash out of the tilted buckets so your soil doesn't wash out.
