  • I nearly painted the top at first. I'm glad I didn't. Love the woodsy warm look!

Becky- to answer your question, I let me wife paint. ...»

I saved a lot of money since I worked in the Granite field at that time, I went to my boss and asked him to show me which slabs of granite he had trouble selling, or has had in stock for a while. By fabricating and installing it myself (I just so happen to be the CNC guy) I was able to get it for about a car payment. We chose to purchase unfinished cabinets from Lowes and stain/lacquer it ourselves. This was also a big cost savings. I extended the depth on two of the uppers and took out the plywood in the door and replaced it with glass that I tinted (auto tint). Natural travertine tile floor and back splash was fun. I knew I was saving money by doing the work so I decided to buy a nice tile saw with a moving bed from Home Depot. One thing I learned from all of this is if you are going to do your own work and not hire it out, save the headaches and buy some good equipment (or rent). I did, however, hire out the plumbing and electrical.

The funny part is, I designed this when I worked first shift and drank, now that I work nights, I have no desire to drink! I still go down there and think about the memories of building it.

slippery when wet, this product doesn't do too bad, I applied it to some natural slate in my shower's floor. It soaks into the stone vs "painting" the face.
