About Me:

Courtney is the girl behind the curtain at the design and lifestyle blog French Country Cottage. She is a mom and interior stylist who is passionate about her family, beautiful interiors and DIY design. She invites her readers to step inside the romantic, shabby, French style & renovation of her 1940's cottage.  Blending the rustic with the elegant~ she loves a crystal chandelier in every room, a weathered table set with flea market silver & vintage china and gilded chairs covered in burlap.  Re-imagining forgotten treasures, tackling projects with her own set of power tools & decorating with flea market finds~ she believes that rooms don't have to cost a fortune to be beautiful, elegant and comfortable.

Favorite area of home improvement:

DIY remodeling rooms in my home and taking something forgotten and turning it into something fantastic.

  • Lettuce bowl out of old colander.
  • The colander was found at a thrift store for less than a dollar.
  • I put coffee filters in the bottom to keep the dirt from running out every time it was watered.
  • Then I just added dirt and the lettuces (I bought small lettuce plants, but you could grow from seed).
  • And this was all made for Ben The Guinea Pig. You could use it for people lettuce, but it turned out to be just the right height for Ben to snack on. Sadly, Ben died a few months after this photo was taken. RIP, Ben.

gardening. It ends up that it's been done before. A lot. But even if everyone is doing it nowadays, it's still a cute way to grow a small amount of lettuce or herbs.

Chicken Feeder Salad Garden

Well, if I can't have chickens right now....

I can at least have a chicken feeder.

And plant salad in it! Right!!???

Not only has it been a great place to keep great salad greens at the ready...it adds so much character to our garden.
