Few things are more annoying than standing in front of your dishwasher with a dirty plate, wondering whether the current load is clean or dirty. Is that soap scum or leftover birthday cake residue? Hard to tell!

End the dishwasher confusion once and for all by making a "Clean/Dirty" magnet. You'll never have to second-guess your dishwasher again. As an added bonus, the "Clean" half of your new magnet can serve as a gentle reminder for your kids to put the dishes away. You'll ...»

need: magnet, washi tape, Sharpie, white mailing label (optional), scissors (optional)How to:1. Check your fridge for cheap magnets. Chances are, you have a couple of magnets on your fridge that you didn't buy (or ask for). We like to call these "junk mail magnets." These will be the magnets you're going to repurpose for your dishwasher! (We used an old pizza delivery magnet and another from a towing company.)More: https://brightnest.com/posts/5-minute-diy-pr...

lovely and once very expensive chaise lounger for a $1 at a garage sale and then pondered over replacing all the broken webbing under the footrest area. We are pretty much in the middle of lovely nowhere, and I was getting nowhere trying to track down webbing kits and teach myself how to do it. Then the kid comes trotting home from garage sales of his own with a passel of discarded belts...and he belts them around the frame, buckle down, and viola! Done and done.

DIY Project: Turn Dinnerware Into a Jewelry Tray

Want to turn a few unused items into an elegant, masterfully designed DIY project? All you need are a few pieces of dinnerware and a pair of candlesticks! While you could use this creation for a mini cupcake tray or serving platter, we think it's perfect as a unique jewelry display. No one else will have a way to keep their baubles organized quite like this!

You'll need: two candlesticks, a small bowl, two differently sized plates (one large and one small) and ...»

E-6000 glue.

Note: We found an awesome set of matching plates at Target, but any set of teacup saucers or appetizer plates will work. If you don't have a pair of candlesticks, head to your local thrift store to pick up a few.

How to:

1. Add glue around the bottom of one candlestick, focusing on the candlestick edge (the part that will be touching the plate below it). Press the bottom of the candlestick down onto the center of your base plate (make sure it's the larger of the two plates).

  • Stylish Bookmark. We're taking a stand: no more dog-eared page corners. Instead, protect your books with easy-to-make bookmarks. All you need is a paper clip and some washi tape.
  • Pit Remover. What do olives and black cherries have in common? Besides being delicious, they both have pits! Make the annoying de-pitting process less frustrating by using a paper clip.
  • Bread Tie Replacement. Seriously, where do all those bread ties go? If you're like everyone else in the world and have a hard time keeping tabs on those plastic fellows, prevent a loaf from becoming stale with paper clips.
  • Electronics Cleaner. Computer mice, keyboards and handheld gadgets collect dust and grime quicker that you can say "Angry Birds," but cleaning between those small pieces isn't a fast process!

Be Your Own Dry Cleaner!

Unlike traffic lights and "do not disturb" signs, "dry clean only" labels can be second-guessed. After all, dry cleaning costs add up (to $1,500 a year, on average!) and 65 percent of the clothes taken to the cleaners can actually be machine washed. The dirty truth is that garment manufacturers are required to provide cleaning instructions and many choose the conservative approach.
