About Me:

I'm a mother of 5, a Jesus lover, a coffee abuser, an obsesser of all things DIY, design and decor related. Most of what you'll see here are ways to live inexpensively, and how I put those into practice with my constant need to renovate houses. We are a military family of 7, so houses must come big and inexpensive, and made beautiful as we go, turning what most would see as trash, into treasure. Thanks for stopping by, stay awhile and make yourself at home. I hope you enjoy my ideas.

Favorite area of home improvement:

House renovation, before and afters. Dumpster dives and trash into treasure type projects.

My Latest Insulator Coat Rack ...(the shabby version)

I thought I would make some new insulator coat racks to sell, and therefore decided to stick with the neutral insulators. I crackled painted and scraped the paint before drying to get a ...»
heavily distressed look on the baseboard before adding the clear insulators. I'm liking the finished product!

  • I started by removing the covers and washing them.
  • I labeled the "fluff" taken from the back cushions so I wouldn't get confused when it was time to re-stuff.
  • I used this quilt batting ($9.99 at Walmart) to beef up the cushions.
  • I simply trimmed the batting and wrapped it around the bottom cushions to boost their fluff-ability. Yep. That's the technical term. ;)
  • I put the covers back on the new beefed-up cushions and now my couch looks as good as new.

New Spring Pillows!

I just about to move, and didn't want to put much money or time into spring decorating in my current house, but new spring pillows were a must. See how I made them as inexpensively as possible with some fun, new fabric!

Ralph Lauren inspired outdoor dinner for two

My favorite American designer is Ralph Lauren and I'm constantly awed by

his collections both in clothes and home decor. Today I am sharing a ...»

Ralph Lauren inspired romantic dinner for two that I designed in front of an outdoor stone fireplace. I've

dubbed it a Tally-ho tete-a-tete! With it's equestrian detailing, the

scene is set for the dashing hero and dazzling heroine to ride in on

their beloved steeds and dine at this ruffled burlap table. {At least that's how I imagine it!} You can see more photos on my blog: http://celebratingeverydaylife.com/a-tally-h...

My Happy Spring Vignette

Here is the latest spring vignette I've come up with for my place. My goal was to use only what I had around. It's pretty simple, but adds some Spring-ness to the space!

  • Here's a close-up of the newly tiled floor. It has really held up for several years, now.
  • When we purchased the house....the pantry had a faux brick floor.
  • We sanded the floor and applied a primer recommended by Sherwin Williams. 1
  • Then we laid the flooring in a diagonal pattern and trimmed the edges to fit the space and trimmed out with quarter round.
  • We added built-ins for storage and display!

My Re-purposed Wine Bottle Clipboard from Hometalk

Last spring I took some old wine bottles and jute and created some fun vases for spring. I ended up using them all year long! I love a good junk upcycle, and wine bottles seem readily available, so I thought I would collaborate with other Hometalk bloggers who have shared their amazing wine bottle upcycles to create this clipboard.
