Building a raised garden bed for our vegetables!

been feasted on by termites. So...this time my husband built a large raised bed using cobbled paver stones. Our vegetables love it! I do too...even though it was probably the area where my dream pool would have gone! Hah! DIY Painted French Bee Server From a Mismatched Buffet...

I was thrilled to do a project using graphics from the Graphics Fairy and have it featured on the DIY Graphics Fairy site. ...»

We started with a buffet that had been repaired over its lifetime and was not living up to its potential.

After sanding and painting with homemade chalk paint I hand painted a bee motif using a projector as a guide then we waxed it and married it to a beautiful mirror we had to create a server for our dining room. Ingredients for a Summertime Front Porch:

It's not hard to create an oasis on a front or back porch -

1. round up a few comfy chairs or a lounge, maybe a swing. ...»

2. add a table to hold a glass.

3. pop in a few pillows and a splash of color in an accessory or two.

...and you have your OWN summertime retreat to enjoy!

Once upon a time, I lived in my dream house. And that dream house had a wide front porch that just said 'Summertime'... It was the perfect place to hang a swing, where I could sit and work or just relax. Add in a few patriotic decor details and a refreshing summer beverage, and it was truly my haven, my retreat. I enjoyed that porch in every season, but especially in summer!

These photos were included in my 'Sweet ReTreats' column in FOLK Magazine's Issue V, Summer 2012. #SummerStyle #OutdoorLiving

Unexpected Beauties: Galvanized Tubs and a Pool Pump turned Planter

There are few things in this world I enjoy more than gardening and breathing new life into things that most people would consider old junk bound for the landfill. When I saw a stacked ...»
galvanized tub planter on Pinterest, I knew I had to make one of my own. We have old galvanized tubs sitting around our house that used to serve as dog bowls. I dragged them out of storage and drilled some drainage holes in them, then I used an old rusty piece of rebar to anchor them all together. After adding a little garden soil and some hosta, creeping jenny and purple moon torenia, I had myself a gorgeous piece of garden art. The previous owners of our house had replaced the pool pump and cut the sand filter in half to use as planters. I love that he was a repurposer, too! I got my husband to dig a shallow hole, and we buried the top half of the pool pump halfway in the ground but tipped at an angle to show off the flowers better. Filled with coleus and hosta, it makes the perfect end cap for my shady driveway border. Great for adding some #SummerStyle to my house!

  • We sanded and painted the existing cabinets, I love how fresh and bright they are now. The light reflecting backsplash tile adds sparkle and glam!
  • This beautiful Kohler sink is much more functional than what they had. The taps were repurposed from the old kitchen as they were in great shape. Counters were done with 12x24 floor tiles... a great option that is very cost effective.
  • The appliance garage door looked dated so we removed it and painted everything out... so much better!
  • The kitchen before, dark and not enough contrast with the wood floors. The laminate counters were also dark and dreary...
  • Although the cabinets were good quality, they had pitting that my parents didn't like. We planed them down for a fresh clean starting point.
  • I think they like it!

Herb Garden from an Antique Crib...

Sometimes, simple ideas are the best don't you think...

Last week we were sitting out on the patio talking about wanting an herb garden... ...»

We bandied about different places to have it and design ideas...

Then I had a thought!

What about that old crib?!?

I found it at a yard sale a few years ago and thought it was adorable...

It has been a bench in the bunkie and was really cute there... but I wanted to see it more.

Kent agreed that it would be fun so he made a box for it and painted it up...

To see the whole post... come on over!!
