DIY Custom Pantry Transformation

After two years of struggling with storage space in our existing pantry, we moved the pantry renovation to the top of our "Never ending honey-do-list". We started out with a common ...»
looking pantry with utility wire shelving hidden behind a set of bi-fold doors. But after a little "sweat equity" we transformed the pantry into a custom built-in with adjustable wooden shelves, drawer sliders, and the best part of all, all of the storage that we could ask for! (We're also working on a series of tutorials where we share the plans of how we built the cabinet. Here's the first set of plans: http://www.thediyvillage.com/2013/05/build-a...) #BeforeandAfter #DIY #kitchenpantry

  • Turning a pallet into a vertical garden is an inexpensive way to create something unique and beautiful for your yard. 2
  • This pallet (found on big trash day) was cut down four planks on the front and two on the back and then painted blue.
  • Landscape fabric (which can be purchased at most hardware stores) was attached to the back and bottom of the pallet with a staple gun.
  • Potting soil was added in between the pallet planks and at the top, filling the pallet completely.
  • A variety of plants were added to this vertical garden. Succulents are a great choice and the petunias on top create a beautiful waterfall effect.
  • More is better for this vertical garden and plants were placed relatively close together.

How to make a Vertical Garden from a Pallet

I have lots of #porchpride with this vertical garden! I am so excited to show you this beautiful vertical garden made from a pallet ...»
(a pallet that was someone's trash)! See my step-by-step tutorial. A pallet vertical garden is an inexpensive way to create a lovely and unique focal point for your outdoor space and you don't need a lot of stuff to make one.

  • This bathtub is 30+ years old, and has seen many renters come and go before we bought our condo. It was stained, but didn't have any cracks or chips, so I decided to paint rather than replace.
  • The bathtub with it's new shiny bright white paint. I couldn't get the two drains off, so I just painted right over them. 1
  • The first coat of paint going on. You can see how dingy and drab the color of the tub was compared to the bright white paint. 2

DIY Painted Bathtub

I just finished painting my bathtub a couple of days ago. I used Rust-Oleum Tub & Tile Refinishing Kit, and it's still curing (you're not supposed to get water on it for three days), but ...»
the paint seems very durable. Of course, it IS paint, so it won't last forever, but I think this is a very good solution if you want a somewhat easy fix for an ugly, outdated tub, and don't quite have the budget for a complete replacement. More details (including a video) at the link below.

  • I tripped over the travel ping pong net that the kids use on the dining room table on rainy days while cleaning up when it hit me. Take the game OUTSIDE!
  • I used the leftover spray paint from a nightstand I'd painted recently. I ran out of red so using some blue painter's tape I made a quick star and filled it in with the blue to hide the blank spot.

DIY Backyard Games

Every year we throw a Fourth of July party for the neighborhood. Usually we rent a Bounce house and all the kids have a ball. This year we decided that the kids were getting too big so we ...»
had to come up with something else. Kickball and baseball are always fun, but I wanted a couple of games to keep them in the backyard too. Here are some photos of our backyard Twister game and the last minute DIY ping pong table I made out of plywood and saw horses with only 15 minutes until the first guests arrived!
