I've been making all sorts of things since I was little. Being raised on a farm there was lots of room for creativity & imagination. Far from any other children, my friends were the animals. Daisy crowns for the Cows, Berry Bracelets for the Chickens, even a collection of empty snail shells from the garden, decorated and painted with nail polish .
I learned how to cook at Mom's side. She could make delicious meals look easy. Most of my recipes were handed down from generations, as both of my Grandmother's were wonderful cooks and bakers. Visiting my paternal Grandmother you could smell Portuguese delights from the driveway. I grew up going to so many Festas, those scents and tastes are instilled in my memories. Some I can recreate, some not so much. In the Summer my Mom and Aunt would go to Brentwood and buy lugs of fruit. We canned for what seemed like weeks! Mom made the best Apricot Pineapple Jam. As an adult I've ventured out on my own, finding and even developing new recipes.
A country girl at heart, then living in many different places, I have a broad range of what I consider Treasure. From a shiny piece of sea glass on Jewel Beach in Kodiak Alaska to a cup of Cuban Coffee in Miami Florida. After living in many places I've come home to settle back in California, I have found treasure everywhere. But my heart belongs to the past, which includes memories. I love all things old & the hunt to find them. Whether to enjoy them as they are or to find a new purpose, they all have a special place in my heart.
