Steel wool and LOTS OF ELBOW GREASE! Comet power helps too.
Is the kettle stainless, aluminum, or earthenware? Regardless, try baking soda and lemon, first.
White vinegar and baking soda
it will foam up
make sure you do it in the sink or another deep container
if it's inside the kettle just add some baking soda and water bring it to a simmer it will come right off
If on outside, you can try 2 ways. Both would involve putting the kettle in a larger pot. When I burn a pot, I use salt in boiling water. I add it thick & 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 water to cover the burn area. It needs 24+ hrs to soak. The benefit no chemicals. I found both ideas from organic books. I have cats, so if you worried , just put a lid over it. My didn't bother it in sink.
....Salt mixed with Vinegar....and use a non abrasive scrubber. Afterwards, use Barkeepers Friend to really make i shine up.
If it's a glass tea kettle, soak with vinegar, then rub gently with non abrasive sponge.
