I have found that if you use a good lint brush, or even heavy duty packing tape you should be able to pull most of the link balls off. Then rewash the robe all by itself. Good luck.
If you like the robe and want to go to all limits to keep it, you must sit and pick all the lint off. Some people use a disposable razor, I've never used this method so I don't know how well it works. I know how badly you feel over this, I've done the same thing several times!

A battery powered lint/fuzz remover works great. Just google places that sell them.
