Box them in. or use cable trunking or Faux Skirting.
Most home centers sell a flat, vinyl cover that goes over the cord, and lays on the floor. Find one that matches your floor color so it will blend in better.
They sell cord covers at places like Lowes or even on Amazon, lots of types for different situations. Also, here are some other ideas:

While driving on Saturday I was listening to a designer talk show and this question came up. The designer said... A) Area rugs, if it works and doesn't cause a fall, area rugs are used often to hide imperfections.. BUT she said for a not a whole lot of money you can hire a low voltage electrician to put plugs into the floor where you know where you lamps will be. Then tape the cords along the legs of the end table to secure it all the way down to the plug.
If you have really long cords, you can get cable clips and put your cords on top of the baseboard, its best if the cord is the same color as the wall/baseboard.

At Kirklands you can get a long strip of decorative cloth that is gathered (crinkled up) and has Velcro closings. You wrap it around the cords and it hides them and looks more finished. Comes in several colors.
You could always go up and over to the wall and down to the plug.
