How to camouflage bulging stairway walls?
My problem is the stairways walls going to the second floor. The Sheetrock has settled and bulged in some places. I don’t want to re-Sheetrock because of the mess and skim coating might not take care of the problem. Any suggestions how to camouflage the walls. Would textured paint work? What about a wall of pictures?

THICK WALLPAPPER THE KIND YOU PAINT.
Hi Mary,
I think the pictures would probably emphasize the problem. How badly is the sheetrock bulging? Maybe a picture would help come up with solutions.
Is it all the way up? Pictures could be used but you would have to put them all the way up the staircase. Or you could use small wall hangings which aren't so flat like some kind of metal wall hangings and make them different all the way up. Paint them to you color theme or just get them all in various colors.
We took down wallpaper in a small half bath and the walls were a wreck. I also did not want the sanding dust in my air ducts so we put up bead board on the bottom and texture paint on top! Then from the same swatch, we painted the bottom a light peachy/beige color, put up a chair rail and a lighter color at the top over the texture paint! I LOVE IT!
You could also accent the walls with some pattern using 1/4-1/2' thick lumber...ziz-zag, squares, triangles, etc.; or use board and batten from ceiling to floor....then put in some small shelves in different shapes...circles, diamonds, squares, 6 sided, etc.

Lots of removable wallpaper available now. Large prints are popular! Pictures are a great idea...photos, art, mirrors, a quilt or lightweight tapestry from Urban Outfitters. Macrame wall piece, large piece of metal art from Pier 1. I've seen nice walls done with random stickers...purchased or just cut into simple random triangles and placed here and there.
You might want to check on the structural integrity of that before you camouflage it.
