Sounds to me like the floor joists are in need of some help ? Or more need to be put in. Depending on the age of the house the distance between the joist may be wrong. you suppose to have 16" centers between the floor joist.

You might need to have your foundation evaluated, the house maybe sinking into the unsupported substraight. Call in a pro!

It could be also not enough support for the floor joists using 18x18 inch concrete pads or cinder blocks you will need a few floor jacks 4x4 wood posts to go across multiple joists on top of the floor joists place these on top of floor jacks (better using 2 or 3 people)

Once you have it jacked up you can replace jacks with concrete blocks columns one at a time or leave jacks in place using a level check that you have full centered bubble.

And repeat thin process until you can place a level on the kitchen floor in all directions to ensure level

Sounds exactly like what my contractor friend and I had discussed. thanks!

Sounds like a leak and wood rot of the subfloor and joists. Get it inspected by a contractor fast.

Whoa! You better call for a home inspection and a structural engineer/contractor. Sounds like your foundation may be shifting, adjustment to floor joints and supports are in order. Give Harold (above) a call, he sounds like a knowledable pro to me.

I have a guy locally. He had mentioned doing exactly what Harold suggested, so I'm feeling pretty good about it.

    Good, Jean. Thinking of you.
