Today, I'm thrilled to share the step-by-step process of my dining chair makeover. I turned a basic table and chairs set, that I snagged for $300 on Facebook Marketplace, into a stunning dining set that now graces my home.

Tools and materials

  • Dining table and chairs set
  • Jigsaw
  • Primer
  • Paint
  • Upholstery fabric
  • Staple gun
  • Screwdriver
Dissassembling chairs

Step 1: Assess and Disassemble

First things first, take a good look at your chairs. In my case, my husband wasn't a fan, but I saw potential. Start by removing the seats from the chairs using a screwdriver. This step makes the makeover much easier.

Step 2: Jigsaw Magic

Now comes the fun part! Utilize your jigsaw to cut off the tops of the chairs. This not only removes any unwanted spindles but also gets rid of any quirky bumps or details that don't align with your vision. Take your time with this step to ensure a clean and precise cut.

Step 3: Prime and Paint

Once your chairs are stripped down to their basic form, it's time to give them a fresh start. Apply a coat of primer to create a smooth surface for the paint to adhere to. Choose a paint color that suits your style and complements your dining room. I went for a classic white to keep things bright and airy.

Upholstery revamp

Step 4: Upholstery Revamp

With the chairs looking brand new, let's tackle the seats. Select a stylish upholstery fabric that enhances the overall aesthetic of your dining set. Carefully reupholster each seat, pulling the fabric taut and securing it in place with a staple gun. This step adds a personalized touch and comfort to your chairs.

Step 5: Reattach Seat Cushions

With the paint dried and the seats revamped, it's time to reunite them. Secure the newly upholstered seat cushions back onto the chairs using the screwdriver. Take a moment to ensure everything is snug and secure.

Painting chairs is a good and simple solution. Cutting off the finials on top changes the look of the chairs. Upholstering the seats updates and cleans up the look. Good tips.
