Camp Shovel Sunflower Garden Themed Decor

This summer season I am decorating my covered patio area with sunflower themed decor.

I purchased this camp style shovel many years ago at an estate sale. The handle had been painted a bright blue. I saw it hanging on the garage wall the other day and decided to give it a makeover.

After cleaning up the shovel a bit, I brushed Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Gravel Road onto the metal shovel head, and Dixie Belle in Caviar on the wooden handle. Chalk paint sticks to metal very well.

This  sunflower stencil from Hobby Lobby is perfect for the sunflower themed covered patio decor this season.

I cut the stencil down just a bit to tape it onto the back of the shovel head.

I pounced on the stencil using Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Colonel Mustard. For the flower, I used Waverly Inspirations Chalk Paint in Hazelnut from Walmart.

I sprayed the entire shovel with several coats of Rustoleum Painters Touch Clear Spray Sealer.

I hung the shovel on a piece of jute, and added a sunflower seed packet to the shovel with a magnet. I love the way my shovel turned out. I have two other fun shovel projects: Stenciled Shovel Head Garden Stake and Rusty Shovel Signs.
