Devils trumpet or Angels trumpet? And how do I get rid of it?

I have a plant and I'm unsure whethe it's the Devils trumpet or Angels trumpet, either way I want to get rid of it. I did touch the flower (with my nail) and I'm unsure whether I should worry or not. I'm very worried because I have 2 childre, and I want it out so they can be safer, even if I shouldn't worry. Could I possibly just yank it out with gloves or do I need a fertilizer? The flowers recently fell of on their own and that's when I touched it. Is there a safe, proper, and permanent way I could get rid of it?

Hi Elliot, I found an article that is pretty interesting. http://www.ways2gogreenblog.com/2009/09/03/be-forewarned-about-the-datura-inoxia-devils-trumpet-flower/

It doesn't talk about getting rid of it, but If It were in my yard, I would used gloves and a little shovel to get the roots.

    Good luck!

Hello Elliot, I recommend pouring boiling water on it then shake salt on it. A lot of salt. This method will kill any plant. Hope this helps.

I don't think you have to be too worried. Just wash your hands with soap and water after you touched the plant. It does appear to be a devil's trumpet. You should be able to pull it up with gloves on, but if you're concerned you should get a professional to remove it. (landscaper?) You could take a sample to your local county agent for accurate identification and proper means of disposal.

I think the main danger with devil's trumpets is when it is literally eaten. But you never know when a child or animal might ingest some of it, so I guess you're better safe than sorry.

  • Devil's trumpet. Just dig it out and dispose. Only harmful if ingested. If you have kids and / or pets, yes I would remove, this plant is tint, won't take much to remove. If you want to kill quickly, pour vinegar on it while in the sun, will die quickly.

My Angel's Trumpet is orange - and quite weedy. However, if you spray it repeatedly, per instructions, with a good grass and brush killer, you will kill it all off eventually.

There is a plant in the desert (Yucca Valley) that resembles a lily but they are really poisonous when digested. I suggest that you did it up as soon as possible and bag and throw them away in order to prevent any consumption by children or aminals. Hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I keep a box of disposable vinyl gloves on hand for this type of thing. Better safe then sorry.
