"Yucca plants are hardy perennials, and it is often very difficult to get rid of them completely. Because they have an extensive root system, it is virtually impossible to remove the entire network. Even if you cut the plant down, surviving roots will send up new shoots. Completely killing yucca plants may require several attempts." This site offers 3 ways to kill a yucca plant. I would cut down the plant and put round up on the stumps, it may take more than one treatment, but it should take it down to the roots and kill them eventually. I would make sure to put it on raw fresh cut stem to make sure it gets pulled down easier.
We cut down a large shrub that was growing too close to house foundation . Then I really doused cut stump with roundup. That was several yrs ago. It has not come back.
I have several bunches of yucca in my backyard. I've tried several times to remove some of them and they always come back. However, when they attempt to reseed (the flowering shoots), I immediately pull them out which does help somewhat to keep them from reseeding.
Thank you. We are planning on trying to dig up the roots in winter. I am sure we will have to repeat. I'll try everyone's suggestions. I have come to hate that plant.
