Want to spruce up front & side porch gables & pillar color. Do I need to match the window trim? Sick of looking @ all the white. Thank you!

No rule, but IMHO the white there is perfect. . . nice, nice house

came back to say I think shutters would be a better idea than changing white of the pillars Or columns

I agree with Emily. White makes it stand out as an entrance. It's timeless. Shutters on all the windows would look amazing.

  • Beautiful traditional home! You totally could paint just the pillars and porch entry a different color... But repeat it, or an interpretation of it in a couple other spots. So if you did them black, you have the black window boxes and planters to make it look like a plan and not a mistake. If you want a brighter color on the pillar area, you could even repeat it by matching the color of flowers in your window boxes and planters to it. Hope that helps. Shutters would be great too, please just be sure to do the right size and placement of shutters if you go through the expense of putting them on that brick! Here is a post I wrote with some very helpful tips for shutters do's & don'ts.

Wouldn't ever have the pillars anything but white. Shutters colors are optional. Not the pillars it will make your house look cheap.

  • I agree with Emily. Such a beautiful and classic house! Add some darker (black or dark slate) shutters for an extra pop and keep the columns and trim white. Blessings to your family and home. Hugs, Holly
