Painting a carpet

There's no money to replace our carpet (wishful solution), yet I cringe when I have company; it looks really bad. Has anyone painted a room full of berber carpet?

I would consider dying it rather than painting it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aysu-7AAY_k

I agree with Terry. I would look into dying the carpet. I was lucky enough to find a company that did it, so I was able to turn light grey carpet into hunter green. Just be realistic when you chose colors so as not to be disappointed.

What's under the carpet? A concrete slab? We have the same situation, and are considering staining the concrete slab underneath and using an area rug or two. Anyone know if this is an option?

No, just squeaky plywood is beneath carpet. I like your idea for dealing with a concrete base, though. Thanks, I still need to know how many options I might have to paint the carpet - is one limited to specifically "fabric" paint?

Can you have it professionally cleaned? If not, rip up the carpet and deal with what is underneath, . Don't live with ugly, dirty carpet in your house - not healthy! Don't paint it.

Have you tried Folex carpet spot remover yet? Don't give up until you do! It's cheap, and available at Lowe's, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Amazon. It's good to have on hand anyway, for any other rugs, carpets, and even clothes and upholstery! I have an off-white rug, and a cat that throws up, sometimes, and Folex keeps my rug spotless! There are videos about it that users have posted on YouTube.

In the 60s, when I got my first apt., I bought a rug at Woolworth's 5 & Dime for $10. Only color they had was bright yellow! I bought boxes of dark blue Tintex dye, mixed in a pail, and with one of those sponge mops, dyed the rug, on the linoleum floor. Turned out beautiful. You must use a dark color. Left it there after 3 yrs. when I moved...still looked great!

You can buy carpet dye. If the carpet is a solid color you can use Ritz dye , mix in a spray bottle, you may have to exspiriment a few times to get the color right

I have painted a carpet many times. was clean but showed traffic patterns. I used aluminum oil based paint because it was light weight. Painted it on thin. worked perfectly and kept the carpet going for another 5 years. you can paint upholstery with chalk paint so I bet you can do carpets too.

I used Ritz dye, @ wal-mart. I used the liquid type. It worked great. It may be cheaper than some of the others you will have to see if true.
