Hi, I have a 41 yr old mobile home and the sink in the 2nd bathroom is really disgusting with the cracks and corroded stopper.
Anyone have any ideas on how to make it look better?
The sink and counter are all 1 piece and no $$$ for buying a new one or getting it installed.

  • is this porcelain??There really isn't anything that is going to fix it. Look, if it's corroded and disgusting, maybe you should check ads for free sink tops or vanities?? look on Craigslist in your surrounding areas. People are always remodeling and giving away older stuff. It's got to be better than what you are putting up with. changing out the plumbing lines is easy. just watch a youtube video if need be.

At this stage a 41 year old sink should be changed out. If you have no funds to replace it, you could ask a local trade school or plumbing company if they have students or apprentices who need experience. Maybe they can replace it as part of a low cost option like cosmetology schools when they provide services for very little charge.

I lived in a mobile home for years, and I had the same problem. You're just going t have t face it; these don't get fixed. Both Lowes& Home Depot have sinks the right size for about $40. They also have new faucets for around $15. And replace the plastic pipes under the sink now, too. For less than $100, it will all be brand new and it will last longer than the rest of the mobile home.

Check out a habitat for humanity store. they usually have vanity's, countertops/sinks. I changed out mine for $40.00 learned how by watching youtube . I'm 65 and if I can do it so can you.

This is all one piece though, I'm not very strong or knowledgeable with everything that would be involved in taking it apart and wouldn't know how to put it back and connect everything. I'd rather just find a fix for the cracks and replace the drain.

OK, YOU ALREADY KNOW YOU COULD COMPLETELY REPLACE IT. BUT MY SINK HAS SCRATCHES TOO, AND THOUGH I HAVEN'T TRIED IT I FOUND OUT THROUGH RESEARCH ONE COULD USE A SORT OF PUMICE STONE TO SAND THE SCRATCHES SMOOTH, THERE ARE ALSO MATERIALS THAT CAN "FILL IN" THE SCRATCHES, THEN PAINT WITH APPROPRIATE CERAMIC PAINTS. NOW YOU HAVE OTHER OPTIONS--

@CYBRCOOK thanks, yours was the only "fix" but I checked out the you tube and maybe my neighbor can help do it. I saw a sink counter on c'list for 25, hope still there tomorrow.

Hi Liona, I'm like you- not very strong or knowledgeable about plumbing, and still would not be comfortable taking a sink and drain system apart, after simply watching a video on YouTube. (Everybody learns in different ways, and for some of us, it's not always by a video.) Liona - I've seen someone on this site, I think, use some type of cement/ cementing to upgrade their countertops in kitchen & bathrooms, as well as bathroom sinks. The cement comes in different colors, and you can apply it yourself. It will cover and seal all cracks, scratches, etc. from what I recall. I also saw another technique done with spraypaint that looks like sandstone in different colors. This can also be used on countertops and sinks, as well. You may be able to search for these articles/ techniques, and/ or ask about them at your nearest Home Depot or Lowes. Also check out ideas on Pinterest. Hope this helps!

Aloha, thanks everyone for your help. The video looks doable and not that much to taking off the counter. I saw a counter-sink on Craigslist for $25 and hope it will still be there tomorrow. If that fails, I will try habitat and see if I can get one there. best wishes and mahalo to you all.
