Drilling hole in acrylic sink

I need to drill a 1 inch hole in my sink. How can I do this without damaging the sink.

I have done this before so I could install a soap dispenser. I taped the area, (the tape helps from splintering) and used a drill or hole saw designed for the material I was drilling through. Not sure what you need the hole for, but most things mounted on the sink have a cover ring, so you have a small margin of error.
