How can I repair a large chip from my porcelain kitchen sink?

I set a hot pan on the divider of my porcelain kitchen sink and a large chunk of the porcelain cracked and broke out (3"x1" piece). I've heard there are patch kits; do they work? Are there any tricks to it?

A hole that big, I would use 2-part epoxy putty to fill the area level with the rest of the area using a putty knife. Let dry, wet sand smooth, and then get the porcelain chip kit to cover with epoxy white. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91C_795z18g
