I have a steel garage door that I painted with an oil base paint.
It was in good shape before I painted it I t now is pealing off -
So I started out with a top quality oil base paint on the steel door which didn’t have an adhesion problem and now I have an ugly peeling problem. What to do! What a mess! Can you help?

You said the door was in good shape but , did you sand and prime the door before painting, if not that is why you have paint peeling, at this point you will have to strip, sand, and prime before putting on the top coat if you want it to last regardless if you use a top quality brand of paint , preparation is 90% of a good lasting paint job

I have this issue too. My door was originally prefinished from the factory and I painted over the just the center of the panels without a problem but when the professional painters repainted over THAT it peeled right down to the bare metal in patches that are about 4" x10".
