  • Gluing the paper down using a 50% Elmers glue %50 water mixture. This part took forever. 10
  • A close up of the finished floor, it almost looks like old leather. 15
  • I did the whole 10 X 12 room for about $80, but any future room will cost about $30. That's cheap flooring! 11
  • Here is the paper going on, this is about 10 hours in (spread over multiple days). 6
  • Mopping on the stain. 6
  • After 12 coats of poly! I know people say this all the time, but it honestly look much better in real life. It just looks shiny in the pictures. 7

Paper Bag Floors

If you are in need of new flooring but don't have much money to spend (or even if you do) then this fits the bill! I created this floor out of brown paper, Elmers glue, stain and ...»
polyurethane. It was easy to do (albeit time consuming) and is very durable. This room is 10 X 12 and cost about $80, but future rooms will cost about $30 since I have plenty of leftover supplies. Spring Blooms

Spring is in the air (or in my mind!) and I selected a few pictures from my former garden to share with you. This wisteria was trained around the top of the gazebo, this took about six ...»
years. When it bloomed in spring, it had a heady, wonderful scent!

Master Bathroom Makeover

My husband and I recently tackled our Master Bathroom. We took it from dark and dreary (last picture) to bright and airy. Plus we added privacy, crown molding, new lighting, updated the ...»
existing vanities and added a valance over the window. Check out the whole makeover: http://www.lifeonmarsblog.net/2012/07/master...

  • We started out with these 3 Ball Jars. They would shortly become the light fixtures above our kitchen island! 4
  • Then the Ball jar is screwed onto the lid! 4
  • Here you can see how we prepared the lid. I used a step bit to bore the hole in the center, then drilled vent holes all the way around the lid to allow the heat from the bulbs to escape.
  • The light socket side of the pendant light kit is inserted through the center hole and a threaded collar is screwed on to hold the ball jar lid in place.
  • All 3 finished Ball Jar Pendant Lights! 5

Ball Jar Pendant Lights ( Mason Jar )

The former owner of our house installed 3 pendant lights kits above the kitchen island. The kits are pretty nice because instead of having to be hard wired in, they screw in just like a ...»
light bulb. So instant transformation! The only thing we didn't like about the pendant lights were the existing pendants. We looked at most of our home improvement stores in the area, but didn't find the look we wanted. So we opted to make our own. Jacque decided she wanted to convert ball jars into pendants...And gave me the responsibility of making that happen.
