  • Ebony Varathane Stain and a simple white stencil.
  • This stain went on so smoothly and dried super quick. I only needed 1 coat to get the look I wanted.
  • Fitting my box all together - I did not do a solid bottom.
  • The tree fit perfectly and now we are ready to decorate!
  • I am thrilled with how quickly this porject came together and how it pulls the look of the tree together and makes it seem so complete.

Make A Christmas Tree Crate (Hide that Ugly Stand)

For years I have hated the green and red plastic monster under the Christmas tree. I have tried to hide it, ignore it, come to terms with it...but nothing works.BUT not this year. In ...»
about 2 hours total, I whipped up a simple rustic crate (about a 26" x 26" square) to house the tree...best yet I do not have to look at the ugly stand but get the peace of mind of knowing that plastic monster is protect my hardwood floors from water damage etc.

I only needed 5 pieces of 1x4x10 pine cut into the right dimensions (6 - 26", 9 - 25") about 2 dozen +/- wood screws, some wood stain and paint to create this Christmas Tree crate that look as though it could have fallen off Santa's sled.

  • Our pretty new kitchen!
  • Finally drawers that glide - no more karate kicks to get them to shut!
  • The addition of bun feet added a special element and really made the cabinets look like furniture.
  • The old kitchen. I was not sad to see it go!

A Savvy Kitchen Remodel on a Budget

boxes but the difference new doors, new drawers, a brand new built in pantry, new counter top and backsplash, and a really good paint job was UNBELIEVABLE! I am so happy I waited to remodel our kitchen until we had lived in our home and found the right niche for us.

Mdf coffee table to Parisian chic accent table

I recently received a small mdf coffee table as [art of a blogger challenge. It was a fine little table, but too small in scale to be a coffee table in my house...so I transformed it ...»
using some metallic glazing paint (finished with a clear coat of polyurethane), some gorgeous (faux) Parisian maps and decoupage and some metallic upholstery nails. Now, I must say it is a chic little cutie that I am using to house my favorite fashion and Parisian inspired accents.

  • The finished cart, complete with a chalkboard top!
  • Oh this cart was a busted mess...but not for long!
  • Happy Hour!
  • I added a chalkboard top. This works so well when I am having a party with a specialty drink - I just jot down the recipe and supply the ingredients and everyone can help themselves as the night goes along.

Trash to Treasure Party Cart!

I love repurposing old stuff - just about anything will do! It gives me a good challenge and also provides me with unique furnishings and decor. I spied this broken down cart at Goodwill ...»
(still sitting in the back even) and had to have it. It was beat up and a bit over my typically goodwill hunting price point, but it called to me...I had to have it...and so I did. And then I repaired and painted it. Now it is used all the time...indoors and outdoors, as a serving cart and a beverage cart.

It's awesome Holly. You'll love it. Our home originally had a formal dining room, but with a ...»
larger sunroom off the kitchen I figured we'd put our dining table there. I drew up changes for our architect that closed off the would be dining room from the kitchen so we could make it into a library. We just about finished the bookcases last Spring. We've still some trimming to do, but were able to finally start using it for our books. We're both avid readers.

I love a good old fashioned (junk) fair!

I headed to Goat Hill Fair a few weeks ago. The highlight was listening to my friend Cathe Holden speak, but there was so much more. So many great vintage finds, re-purposed furnishings and found objects and amazing art and jewelry

  • Cleaning up with Heinz Cleaning Vinegar!
  • Essential oils like lemon and tea tree scented my vinegar and water solution and I love the scent.

Cleaning with Vinegar

I used to use vinegar just for taking the sting our of my sunburn, but now that I am an adult (and wear sunscreen) I love using vinegar to clean everything! I have recently have ditched ...»
the rest of my cleaning supplies and made up a few formulas of vinegar cleaners, including some lemon scented ones!

With just some cleaning vinegar, water, and a spray bottle, there is a world of possibilities to clean naturally and economically. Add in some essential oils for a different scent and also mix it with baking soda for a scrubber!

A couple of years ago Heloise was on TV and said she asked Good Housekeeping to test vinegar ...»
and they reported it removed 95% of the mold and germs! It is also good for removing that grass that grows outside between the pavement and gutter of the street! I do not like soy sauce, but I keep a bottle in the frig to put on minor burns. I have not tried it on sunburn because I use so much sunscreen these days! I wonder if it would work there too?
