Cleaning & Organization: Flooring

When we moved into our '78 one floor home, we had the carpeting cleaned well. This had been a rental house and there were many pets in here. Now, the odor is unbearable. The flooring is ...»
not hardwood.

We know this will be quite a project throughout the entire house.

My question is can the flooring be treated to totally eliminate the urine odor?

Thank you!

Walls & Ceilings: Ceilings

Looking to redo our one- floor 1978 house. Of course that will take time and money and we are in our 60's. I want to begin with a romantic bedroom. Currently we have a bubble ceiling ...»
but I want to put something else up there without removing that ceiling. I would appreciate any suggestions.

While we didn't so call 'cheat' with the painting of the main rooms? We for DARN sure are doing so, today in fact, in the add on, for the floor! I'll tell ya, if we had to prime, then wait, then prime, then wait, then FINALLY apply the concrete stain? We'd be dead! LOL! And you know what? You're right! Anyone that is THAT much of a Purist, can surely be welcomed into our whole house reno ANYTIME.....to work of course! hahahahaha. You look amazing btw! Never ever would have guessed you were in your 70's. Then again, the 70's are the new 50's! Times have surely changed haven't they? Have a wonderful weekend! xo

I used one of those old metal open weave dishes to cover my coy pond in the winter. The pond ...»
was close to the side of the house and the meter reader had to walk around it to read the meter, I was afraid he would fall into it in the winter when the snow was on the pond. A great free safety solution.

Home Maintenance & Repairs: RANCH WITH NO BASEMENT; CRAWLSPACE ONLY

When we purchased this home, we noticed that there were rocks/stones under the crawlspace area. Over time, cats found their way to take shelter under our house and redecorated by kicking ...»
the rocks into the yard. (LOL). I know there must be some purpose for the rocks, be it to prevent water buildup or condensation problems.

I wonder if you can help me with these questions:

1. Before putting down rock, should we put down a thick plastic covering first?

2. How high up shoud we pile the rocks up?

I have asked several places about this and no one had a good answer for me. I appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you.

CROCHETED BIRD CAGE

I really enjoy this piece of work. It was all crocheted and then coated with spray starch, I believe, in order to keep it upright and remain standing. While I have used new paint brushes to dust it off, I am wondering if there are any suggestions if it should beging to turn yellow, or should I just let it go? I do like the freshness of the white, though. Looking forward to responses. Thanks!

Super! I love crochete...could never do it. A tip here...you do not have to use starch. 1/4 ...»
c epson salt in 1/4 boiling water. I hand wash my pieces in hot water with just a little chlorox and dishwashing powder. Wash in dishwashing soap and rinse very good! Roll in towel to get out extra water, dip in epson salt water, squeeze out ad shape. With the Birhouse, you would have to stuff with plastic bags and prop up roof, but it could be done. You could work with it as it begins to dry. You might want to experiment by forming the main body and then spraying to dapen and shape varioous sections at a time.

Well I'd do that if I didn't have so many other things that were higher priority Susan. Not ...»
that playing on Hometalk should be on that high priority list, but it seems to have taken top billing over my daily chores. :^D thanks to ladies like you!

I'll be looking forward to seeing your wood tomorrow. I'm going to post my "gardens", if you can call them that, tomorrow since I promised Becky H.

Furniture: A LOG BED

When we first began purchasing bedroom furniture, we fell in love with a rustic bed made completely out of logs. Unbeknowance to us, it is difficult to get in and out of due to our back ...»
problems as it really sits high off the floor. Needless to say, we want to change our plans and get another bed. However, I was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions as to what to do with the logs themselves. I am sure there are many ideas about that and I've had a few, but I would really appreciate some input.

I wish I could post a picture of this on here. Unfortunately I am not able to at this time.

You could make two simple "X" frame out of 2"x4" lumber and put 3/8" plywood over it the size ...»
of your box springs. This is how water beds are made. This will lower your bed so that it is not as hard to get in and out of the bed and easier on your back. Now take your Log Head Board and mound it to the underside of the "X" frame and 3/8" plywood with "L" brackets that you can find at any hardware store, they come with holes already drilled in them and screws. Then do the same with the Foot Board. After all the Head Board and Foot Board are the reason you bought the bed in the first place not because of the side rails.

Gardening: Xeroscaoping

Has anyone ever done this and what is your opinion on it. Personally, I think it's a wonderful idea but I'd like more info on it.

Thanks!
