my dish flowers...

Well I FINALLY got them made. I am not very happy with them, I think they look stupid with pvc stems I didn't paint. (I should) But the hostas are coming up and will surround them so ...»
maybe they will look better soon. I think I also am going to move them back further, to the neighbors ' ugly house' to detract maybe from their peeling paint etc. Any suggestions as to how I could have done them better? Different plates, rebar? (Which cost more than the plates did!) This is my first attempt after seeing the great ones on Ht, and I was very leery. But FINALLYYYY! tada! NEW PICTURES.....hostas growing in, I am happier, doesn't look so barren now! Next ones will be green pvc or whatever! @KELLY, GAIL

use a screw, washer, and wire instead of using glue. I might try that also, we just bought a glass drill bit not too long ago. Happy crafting!!

Gardening: Need Garden Advice, it is Spring.

I again this year, am not sure what to do for my little garden. Just about everything is perennial...so I can't see digging and loosening and turning the soil? The day lilies are up , I ...»
expect the hostas to be soon and my first ever planted bulbs are up. I know there are many alyssum seeds and snap dragon seeds that will come up from last year. So what should I be doing in there? Just raking dead leaves?

Here's a tip I'd like to share -I do not rake up all of my dead leaves. I crush them up with ...»
my hands as fine as they will crumble, then only discard large stems and pieces. It adds to the soil and gets composted naturally. Our Garden Club tries to remind gardeners to make good use of nature's waste.

Painting my dishes for tiers!

Well, I did something I have never done before , so you all can tell me if it is a good or bad idea. I had some clear dishes ,( part of my stock pile), but they weren't very interesting. ...»
So I decided to spray paint them with a "hammered" bronze paint, I let them dry overnight and now we will see if the glue sticks to the one I painted on the bottom of the plate, and if they chip with jewelry thrown on them. If anyone has a better idea...please let me know. At least they are more interesting , than the plain jane dishes they were.

My first flower of Spring!

Except for pansies! Isn't this just so cool? We have a lumber mill that went out of business years ago. But instead of sending everyone on their way, the y converted the building into a ...»
workshop, where the employees could do crafts and then take to a refurbished building to sell. EVERYTHING at this shop, (and it is big) is made by local former employees. I fell in love with these horseshoe flowers. This fellow also makes reindeer, cactus..all sorts of things. No one knew these employees were so talented. It is local and it is providing jobs! I finally planted it today, and it instantly made my yard look like something is really happening in there! Spring is springing in Yakima WA! yeaaayyy!!

Cleaning & Organization: Mold issue in San Diego..

KMS Woodworks Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com my friend ...»
lives in San Diego, near the ocean. The landlord told her there is a humidity problem living near the ocean and she will see mold growing inside, she has been getting unusually sick and thinks it is due to the mold issue. It sounds like he was letting her know about mold, and that she could keep on top of it herself. Do most homes in that area have trouble with mold and humidity? Is this a usual thing? is this normal?
