Concrete & Masonry: I am in the process of adding a 16 foot long by 20 foot wide concrete pad in front of my garage doors.

Can anyone give me a ball park figure on how thick this pad should be and the approximate price per square yard for concrete in the Raleigh, NC area.

Thanks in advance

generally speaking, expansion joints aren't found in a driveway,,, contraction & isolation ...»
joints, however, ARE used & each 1 has a particular purpose,,, again, most concrete cracks either because the jointing pattern in incorrect OR the joints were not placed at the proper time,,, i made a very good living for 10 years doing just that item alone - sawing joints in green concrete.

What are my options for 'finishing' a concrete floor.

Just sanded the paint off my garage floor in prep to convert it to office space. Want to keep it cheap, so no tile.

that's true about a 7 1/2" blade but it never did or will,,, to cut thru a 4" slab you would ...»
need 8" + 1/2 of the blade collar diameter - that's true for any saw,,, here's another tip - even if using a 35hp saw, most pro's would saw 2" at a pass - its far easier on the blade & the torque of the cutting won't ' throw ' the saw to the side as much,,, far a whether or not the beam saw would have done the job, always knew it would but its not made for that task so good for you.

Heating & Cooling: What should I expect to pay for a replacement 10 year gas water heater and the expansion tank?

It is in the garage so the space is not difficult to work in.

Why would a 2 year old driveway peel the top layer of concrete off only in one smal section?

its very likely the finishers added too much water to that particular area when ' blessing ' ...»
quik-setting concrete thereby reducing the strength. it could also be there was bleedwater lying in that area ( birdbath ) & wasn't removed from the surface in time
