Chicken Video

I've started calling my husband Birdman. The hens think he's their mama.

Chickens!

The girls have grown! They are 9 weeks old today and have grown by leaps and bounds! We've become so attached to them, and they seem to like us, too. They're getting brave as they explore ...»
their expanded backyard space, but they still run to their dad when they get scared.

Chickens

Our chicks arrived today!

We ordered 7 female chicks (buffs, Rhode Island reds, Americauna, barred rock, and an ...»

astrolorp) and they send 11 roosters along for warmth on the trip. lol! So...we are giving roosters away to anyone who wants one or all. We only want to deal with egg laying, not breeding! They're so cute. I can't wait to watch them grow! They'll move out to their brooder next and will move to their coop at 7 weeks. The egg laying won't commence until 5 months or so. This is our first time raising chicks so I'll keep you posted as things roll along!

  • The chicks' first adventure in the backyard!

Baby Chicks!

This was our chicks' first outing! We took them out to the coop area and let them peck around for insects. We supplemented with meal worms and crickets. They had a ball and so did we!

  • Finish product!

In The Garden - Crayon Art

I did my first attempt at crayon art. I got the idea after perusing Pinterest and thought I'd make a homemade craft to compliment my four year old niece's birthday present. This was the finished product. More details on how I created it can be found on my blog, come on by and take a look. I was able to make this in less than 2 hours total.

on in class, then I'll do the melting part. I'm going to let a few of them glue the flowers on to finish it off. I love it!

One of my fun pastimes turned profit!

When my son was little I was a stay at home mom, I found things to do to pass the time when I wasn't busy with him, and I started making jelly from garden ingredients. Been doing it 19ish ...»
years now. Well people started asking if they could buy a jar here and there, so I started a little side business with it....I love doing it, but more than that, I love to hear people say how much they enjoyed eating it, (especially the kids!)

great way to turn a love into a profitable endeavor! We're giving homemade apple butter, pickles, pickled peppers, pickled beets, and sauerkraut away for Christmas along with my husband's homemade bacon. It's very rewarding to know your hard work (and the heart that went into it) is appreciated and enjoyed by others!

Chicken Coop

We're getting chickens in a few weeks (for egg laying purposes), so my husband built a coop. It'll be several weeks before they're ready to use it but we wanted it to be ready when the time comes.
