About Me:

I'm a homeschooling Mama to 5 gorgeous children. My military husband is the love of my life. "Bloom where you're planted" is my motto, and so that's what we're doing...even in icy cold Alaska...

Favorite area of home improvement:

I would say painting and rearranging are my passions, though I'd love to learn to build things using a table saw one of these days.

  • This quirky, double wide sized pallet wood chair is all decked out, ready for a great summer read.
  • Two pallets, 4 legs and two armrest boards are really all it took. So easy! The trick is to ensure you find two pallets that are similar in size.
  • Let's add more quirk to make it totally yours! This signboard was used as an armrest. Note how wide the board is... perfect for my coffee cup. Priorities here...
  • This leg has an antique level attached. This project is a little like 'Where's Waldo's Wild Additions?'
  • Pallet markings were celebrated by placing them in prominent places. Coffee bean sacks acting like large pillow cases were just tucked in place. No sewing required. 2
  • For the legs, a little bracing was required inside the pallet so the leg had something to stabilize against.
  • Tell me that isn't one big cool chair to curl up in! But let's add some comfort...
  • 5" foam cut to size (new from a foam shop) was key for the ultimate comfort.
  • This is a pallet SOFA I made last year, decked out in total bohemian style craziness. The build is much more size customized: http://www.funkyjunkinteriors.net/2011/08/how-i-built-pallet-sofa-part-2.html

pallets and little more. I kid you not! This is the easiest build in the world and you'll wonder why you didn't think of it first!

Fun & Funky Vintage Lamp Makeover

color and heavy shade, so I took matters into my own diy-loving hands. With a bit of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and muslin scrap fabric, it's just what I envisioned that it would be - fun, funky and much subdued. Be sure to check out my tutorial! #BeforeandAfter

label completely off with no traces of the sticky gunk left behind. In the past I've used a product called Goo Gone for this job and it's always worked well. But guess what? You can make your own Goo Gone by simply combining vegetable oil and baking soda. I tested it out on a couple little glass jars and it really does work! Family Room Reveal - Making What You Have Work

Decorating after a move into a new home can really be a challenge. What worked in your last home, does not always work as well in your new home. This is what happened to us. ...»

We have a big wool traditional style rug that we love and it looked great in our last home with dark wood floors. Put that same rug with lighter wood floors and it looks very different.

Determined to make it work I pulled the colors from the rug (black, ivory, red and green) and used them throughout the room. I love lots of texture and shine in a room so I also added several baskets, silver accessories, weathered pieces, burlap and linen.

Hope you will stop by my blog for the full tour, lots of pictures to share.

Behind the Pantry Door

Our kitchen had no pantry when we moved in, so when we remodeled, we decided to create a pantry. Old brick buildings with business signage painted on them were my inspiration for my pantry. For some reason, I'm getting an error message when I try to upload more than one photo, but many more photos are available on my blog, where you can see the before and after of the wall turned pantry.
