Nautical Style Furniture Makeover

#SummerStyle. The large chest of drawers I purchased at my favorite junk shop was pretty shabby. It had gouges and cuts in the top ...»
and was missing hardware, so I decided to really make it look worn......but in a good way. I went with a nautical look. I uploaded several pictures here but I have more on my website plus all the makeover details.

Meet Tommy, the bike dresser

The last bike dresser I made was such a hit, I had to create another. This one is covered with Annie Sloan Old White and the bike was created by projecting the image onto the dresser. You can read more about Tommy in my blog post.

  • This was an easy project using paint and stencils. I distressed the drawers heavily and applied the stencils.
  • dresser before makeover, solid wood
  • I used white stencil creme and a stencil brush with block type stencils.
  • This is the dresser after painting and before heavy distressing with a sander.
  • The distressing gives the dresser more depth and the stenciled numbers really make this piece stand out!

We added wainscotting, painted the cabinets, and DIY'd a bunch of accessories (including the towel rack) to make a coastal bathroom for our kids.

Give that boring furniture a shine with a faux zinc finish!

I have a client who adores the zinc look on furniture, but not the price. So I found the bestest, yest best"set" tutorial from Jamie at Freckled Laundry. She showed me the way.

DIY Wood Kitchen {EAT} Sign

I made this sign last weekend with some leftover plywood. Just traced out the letters and cut them out with a jigsaw. It's not perfect and a little rustic just like I like it. :) I love the way it came out and for all of the cost of nothing.

Vintage grain sack inspired desk

This is Adelaide. Her family heralds from the northwest region of France. She likes all things French. A little homemade chalk paint and some decorative painting makes her feel right at home.

Washing Windows Like The Pros

I cannot take credit for this discovery; however I can tell you that it works! In my opinion this is the best way for washing windows. A cleaning company shared this tip with me four ...»
years ago, I was using glass cleaner, vinegar and newspapers. Nothing I did completely cleaned the window. This is the only thing I use now.

Items Needed for Washing Windows

(All items except the Dawn were purchased at Dollar Tree)

Dawn Dish Detergent

Small Bowl or Bucket

Scrubby Pads

Absorbent Cloths

Squeegee

Steps

1. Place a few drops of Dawn in your container with a couple inches of water.

2. Dip the scrubby pad into the water and squeeze out.

3. Scrub the glass. The Dawn along with the scrubby gets the dirt off and does not leave a residue.

4. Squeegee the window, starting at the top and working down, wiping off the "blade" each time with a cloth.

5. Wipe around the edges to absorb any leftover water and dirt.

Who would have known this is all it takes to get professional results? Give it a try and see if you like the Washing Windows like The pros. http://chaoticallycreative.com/2012/03/16/wa...
