Repurposed Piano with many options for functionality

Before anyone goes crazy telling me I am crazy to do this to a piano, the soundboard was warped and the inner pieces were missing a LOT to be playable. As well, the veneer was destroyed ...»
from years of setting some sort of water containers on top. For those following my posts - THIS would be the piece that I demonstrated the * how to get veneer off* posting.

Now for the fun - The progress shots! This piece is so stunning in person. Photos do it no justice. We did a photo shoot to show 3 possible ways to use this. And yes I know there is a VCR in it HAHA!!! Shhh.... look away - it's just to give an example as an entertainment unit! (which would look amazing in our house so it's going to be a toughy to sell this beauty!) All of the inner parts will also be repurposed into furnishings or art. Nothing in this project will be sent to the dump! Aside from the stripped veneer scraps! Visit us at http://www.facebook.com/gypsybarn for more repurposing fun!

  • I needed a way to organize my ever growing collection of baker's twine.
  • I wanted to display the twine in a mason jar and be able to pull it through the cut-outs in a daisy lid, but I had to find a way to keep it from getting jumbled up inside.
  • I picked up some 6" long bolts, some hex nuts, and some washers at the hardware store. Then I put the bolt through the top of the daisy cut out lid.
  • Then I alternated spools of twine and washers...
  • ...until it looked like this! (I screwed the nut on the bottom to keep the spools secure.)
  • And here is the finished product!
  • It's as pretty as it is neat and efficient.
  • If you'd like to learn more, including where to buy the lids, check out my post at: http://www.acasarella.net/2013/03/mason-jar-twine-holders.html. 3

A fun way to organize your craft room!

Learn to make these cute mason jar twine holders. It's a great way to organize your craft room using items you already have (plus a few extras from the hardware store). ...»

Update: I would like to address the two biggest questions I've received regarding this project:

Question #1. Where did I get the daisy lids? I have included three links on my blog where you can purchase them. One link takes you to gold ones, one takes you to silver ones, and another takes you to a link selling the lids with the jars. http://www.acasarella.net/2013/03/mason-jar-...

Question #2. Does the thread get tangled as you pull different strands through? So far the answer is no. And by "no" I mean that you can keep pulling strands through the lid and they all come out smoothly and uninterrupted. They do, however, seem to get twisted around one another. The twisting does not seem to be an impediment, though, as the strands still come through the holes just fine.

I don't know if this is because of the washers I put between each spool or if there's some other reason it's working for me, but I have almost completely unraveled a few of the spools in order to test it out. I hope it works as well for all of you!

I think you will need to go to your local plumbing supply. The big box stores here do not ...»
stock them. You may want to think about replacement cost, and the finished look, broken bowl will be more expensive than a standard toilet.

  • My Easter Cactus in bloom

Christmas Cactus are getting ready to put on their beautiful displays of colorful blooms!

But maybe yours bloomed back in June and you're wondering why its seasons are "off?"

Christmas cactus is a member of the leaf cacti family, and there are really three main types ... not all of them being "christmas cactus".

The Thanksgiving cactus (Schlumbergera truncata), the Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera bridgesii), and the Easter cactus (Rhipsalidopsis gaetneri) all look alike, but their flowers are slightly different, and their ...»

bloom times are completely different. The thanksgiving blooms in fall, the Christmas is near Christmas time and the Easter is in late spring.

Shown below is my Easter Cactus.

If you have one but can't get it to bloom at all, you may want to try putting it in the dark for a couple of weeks, or keep it cool (55-60 F) for about 4 weeks .... the darkness is easier to control. They all require good indirect sunlight and do not let it dry out, they are not "true" cactus.
