  • Thorny cantaloupe/watermelon? What kind of vegetable or fruit is this?

gardening

I need help identifying this creature vine. It looks like a watermelon/cantaloupe vine with spikes on the vine and on the fruit. I need to know if it is harmful for my dog. I'm very curious and so are the neighbors.

I do believe it is the Turtlehead plant. I had one in my wildflower bed at my old house.

Gardening: Family resemblance?

I found this Florida native growing in my garden recently and discovered that it is related to the most economically important potted plant world-wide. Who knows what it is?
