Cool shelving ideas

A few months back I had asked for some ideas for shelving for our new office. Since one of the walls was brick I decided to install some "floating" shelves to let the brick show through.

  • An example of what we are considering- found this at- http://blog.styleestate.com/

Design & Décor: Can you share with us some innovative bookcase and exposed storage shelving in you homes/ office?

We are designing a new conference room and want to have some of our selections and books stored along the walls. We have access to many materials and would like to draw inspiration from hometalk users as to how far can take our design. I personally like the idea of a continuous line for a shelf system and would like to see others as well before we build out the space.

Outdoor Living: Let me know what you think about this decking product.

I have a client that is considering this product on top of a membrane roof on a new house that we are building. Has anyone tried it out before? Let me know your thoughts or if you have a better product that they should consider.

than pressure treated which warps and does not weather well and cedar which gets eaten up by carpenter bees.

What type of accolades do you look for in a contractor?

SawHorse just got named to the book of lists "Top 25 renovation companies" in Atlanta according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle. We also have 125 design awards. ...»

Do these things matter in your selection for a contractor or do you value reviews, community support and knowledge just as much or even more?

We appreciate your honest feedback since there is so little time to do everything and we would like to focus on what matters to the present day consumer.

a 10 x 10 or larger treehouse that you have built with a porch on it. I am looking to show my family what it looks like before I get started on it.

Outdoor Creative Center made from re-purposed materials.

The cobbler's kids...

...are finally getting their own playhouse/ tree house. They have watched me build ...»

several other structures for charities- now they finally get their own.

Eventually this structure will be a tree house, however since it is a "work in progress"- I decided to finish one level at a time. While we are a design build firm- this structure is more like a nest; build as you go with what ever materials are available.

The only materials that were purchased to date were a pallet of concrete for the footings and some chalk paint.

The rest of the materials are either extra from job-sites or were part of the demolition process.

I started with a 12 x 12 platform raised 7' in the air. Eventually- I will build a room and porch on the platform nestled between 3 trees so it appears that is is floating.

For now, I am just finishing the bottom half as an outdoor shelter with some creative features on it. The first feature is a double sided chalk board made from leftover decking materials for the frame and sheets of fiber cement for the chalk board. The fiber cement worked fine as is for the chalkboard, however I wanted for them to see more contrast between the medium and the chalk.

Stay tuned for more features. I think angry birds might get incorporated into the mix shortly as well somehow.

Here are links to other play structures we have shared on hometalk.com:

We got some "free" mulch from the tree trimmers to spread around the base of the playhouse.
