Company Overview

I started in the trades as a way to make money after school in Northern Va. My buddy would pick me up and taught me the basics of reading a ruler and hitting a nail. We worked as siding installers and as time went on, in an effort to expand my knowledge base, I was hired as a general laborer at a local construction site. The Superintendent took a liking to me and shared many of the basics of residential framing and building. Soon, I was learning trim carpentry as well and became well versed in building homes from ... See More the ground up. Not long after, I found I knew enough to do the timely finishing detail work needed prior to the homeowner's move-in date...I was a "Punch-Out" man and did that for many years. I worked as assistant building superintendent for a couple of years and after being offered a chance to run my own jobsite, I declined and began my own Home Improvement company. As time went by I became proficient in many different trades and expanded my company to include home repairs of all kinds and then to building homes myself. My Family and I reside in The State Capital, Richmond, Va. and the company focus is on exterior renovations including replacement windows, siding and overhang trim coverages. We now offer seamless aluminum rain-gutters roll formed on-site. "Let us make Your Silk Purse from the Ol' Sow's Ear!"

  • Sadly I did not take photos showing where I leveled the ground- placed gravel then concrete blocks to set my floor joists on. It is 4'x10' has a slanted roof of tin and a ceiling height of 7'.
  • When building something like this just think of a big box. Framework was 2x4 PT lumber siding T-111. I used PT 3/4" plywood for the flooring which is okay for the interior, not the porch. That should have been PT decking.
  • The bar which is a 2 seater has a swing up door with slide bolts inside for security. I made the doorframe from 2x4s and covered it in the same siding. It has a slide bolt and padlock hasp. We added more decking to gain space.
  • Posts and a repurposed rope was used for railing. A bench, signs and do dads were added as we went along. I Worked with the existing earth to create plant beds.
  • This view is from the Hut's deck. As I said it just went on and on! I will post some info about laying the paving stones in the future. 1
  • So here it is some time later. Weathered in and looking like it has always been there. You can see the flip up bar window is closed here.
  • Winter of 2010- Not a fun place in winter!
  • Brrrrrrrr
  • But spring is always around the corner.
  • We are back in Nashville for a bit so I had access to the other photos I had- here they are.
  • This is what I meant about the project going on and on.
  • She wanted to grow some grapes.
  • I must say the wife had a vision that was a good one!
  • We love spending time out here.
  • It had just rained.
  • Don't you love the way things look so clean and clear after a rain?
  • When cleaned and trimmed it is a good looking area.
  • It looks good in the summer months.

Garden Shed turned Tiki Bar

Here is a garden shed I built that my wife convinced me should be a TIKI Bar. The project spun way out of control as you can see. Like most projects it began out of necessity. It turned ...»
out to be quite fun as we were always coming up with new ideas for add ons. It has become a wonderful outdoor living space for relaxing & entertaining. I apologize for the lack of photos during construction and promise to do better in future posts. The figures on this project may not apply to you. I worked on my own and adress only the shed/bar itself. Not the deck, paving, plants, etc. I had some materials on hand so was not out of pocket for the full amount. It was not a difficult project however you do need carpentry skills and tools.

I bought an unidentified "melon" plant last year from a garden center and it was in a potted raised garden I was

experimenting with and simply TOOK OFF! It was crawling out of the pot and moving across the yard like squash! It was putting out the most beautiful huge yellow blooms and I had 3 melons ...»
starting to grow when I thought I was smarter than Mother Nature Herself and decided they needed a "Boost" I sprayed some misted Miracle Grow for flowering plants and I thought that they would get HUGE...They shriveled up and DIED! I managed to salvage the melons and while not ripened fully, had a decidedly sweet exotic flavor! I salvaged the seeds and this year, I came up with this bright idea. I made this trellis like runner from spare wood in my garage and some nylon string. I'm going to let them come out of the pot again and NO EXTRA JUICE this time. There used to be an above ground pool in the area I picked and aftyer good rains, it holds the water for a couple of days so I know the mystery melon will have plenty of moisture and holding it's little blooms in the air, in theory, it should lay me down some pretty melons for me to identify! The center bar is a piece of half inch water pipe with gutter spikes holding the string like a guitar in case they get heavy and droop...I can raise the center PVC to accomodate the streched string! I'll keep everyone posted and maybe someone knows what exactly they are! Best to me! JL

I have to admit, with "Lik-ked Nalz" and deck screws, it get's easier & easier to make that ...»
silk purse from that ol' sow's ear!

Raining intermittantly here today after a no-winded wet wollop last night! Overnight the lawn's from tan to green...I started to comment that it was like living in the Kalahari but from what I've heard, they are in a dangerous drought now with record low water levels! Same as Amazon...I may not blame the Hummer drivers but I truly see signs of global warming, especially in the reefs...Add the world to your prayers folks, and May God Continue To Bless The USA!

  • This is the after picture with a semi-custom version of the "Late Harvest" mural.
  • This is the before picture of my client's kitchen remodel

I wanted to share a mural installation for one of my clients.

The space was limited, so we had to do some changes to the original mural reproduction to make it fit the space. We were excited to see it come out successfully!
