About Me:

I'm a blogger and would love for you to follow my blog. Interior decorating, gardening, cooking and reading are some of my interests outside of my family. Junking and thrifting are great fun also! Turning a cast off item into a thing of beauty is just a wonderful delight. You can have a beautifully decorated home on the smallest budget. It doesn't have to cost a fortune, although that's fun too! Everyone should make their home beautiful whether it is the tiniest rental apartment or the largest house around. Make your home beautiful for yourself, and for your family if you have one. I am happy to help with your decorating issues. I don't claim to know all the answers but I know where to look if I don't know! Please keep in touch with me here on Hometalk or on facebook or my blog. I would love to hear from you about your home and/or DIY projects. I love Hometalk too! http://shabbyfrenchcountrycottagebasement.bl...

Favorite area of home improvement:

I love rearranging furniture and accessories to make a room look completely different. I love repurposing items and turning trash to treasure. Decorating is so fun!

Touch Up for Cheap

Ever heard the saying, "It's like using a sledgehammer to kill an ant"? Have you ever needed to touch up some paint but end up buying a whole gallon? For those small jobs such as covering up nail holes, or fixing that white smudge on the wall you made when painting your baseboard, buy a sample size jar of paint instead. You can go to your local home improvement store and purchase convenient samples for much cheaper than a quart or gallon. According to a local Lowe's employee, it seems ...»
to be catching on with many do-it-yourselfers, as they are beginning to sell large quantities of these samples.

The pictured samples were only $2.94 each at Lowe's. With a gallon priced at around $25 to $30, it is a huge savings. A great idea when selling your home is to include a few samples so the new owners can make touch ups as needed. Even if they decided to repaint every room, it's a nice gesture and you're only out a couple bucks each.

Brown Bag Faux Bay Leaf Wreath

Recycle brown grocery bags and make a faux bay leaf wreath. Use water color paints to "green" up your bags and cut out the leaves. Attach to a wreath form for a long lasting, upcycled bay leaf wreath.
